 Job Summary:
Plans, develops and implements recreational, social and/or education activities for clients served by the Society.  The Activity Worker strives to create a fun and enjoyable atmosphere in order to encourage client participation in programs.

Reports to Program Coordinator.



Duties

 Key Duties & Responsibilities:
•    Plans, organizes and implements recreational, social and/or educational activities and programs designed to meet the needs of clients.  Activities may take place within the organization’s facilities or in the community.
•    Depending on the special needs of the client served by the program, may participate not only in group planning but in the development of individual activity plans.
•    Encourages and facilitates the participation of individuals in the program.  Creates a fun and enjoyable atmosphere in order to enhance the program’s appeal to clients.
•    Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of new trends in activity programming.
•    Maintains awareness of any problems (medical, behavioral or other) experienced by clients and informs supervisor.
•    May provide counselling support or life skills training to clients.
•    Maintains appropriate records and statistics and ensures all required documentation is accurate and complete.
•    May be required to transport clients.  If this is the case, it is the responsibility of the Activity Worker to ensure that all requirements are met to provide safe transportation I.e. proper driver’s license, brake check etc.  Class 4 is required.
•    Provides liaison with other agencies and the community.  Fosters positive working relationship with staff members.
•    Performs other related duties as required.


Qualifications:
•    A certificate in Human Resources or a related field, or the equivalent education and experience is typically required for this position.

•    At least 3 years previous experience in a similar environment is required.  Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community based programs and related provincial and community support is preferred.

•    Specific program/legislation/policy, provincial and other government frameworks and systems, labour relations or professional knowledge may be required depending on individual agency requirement.

•    Need good written and verbal reporting skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with others; knowledge of theory, principles and practices of the field;  good organization, time, general management skills and good interpersonal skills.
